But the real star-- some would say antagonist-- of the series has been Abby Lee Miller, whose renowned dance studio is the foundation of the show. To say that Abby gives her girls tough love would perhaps be too kind, as her lessons come peppered with criticisms, personal insults, and even throwing chairs at her young students. The fact that she was the star of a popular TV show and helped bring some popular dancers into the world-- and would point those things out every chance she got-- made it seem all the more unlikely that she'd ever have the fall from grace that many people hoped she would. That is, until Abby decided to try and hide some money from the government. When all was said and done, she was sentenced to days in prison, a term that she started this past July. Sources have said that Abby's time in jail hasn't been going well.
Lifetime's Dance Moms has hit new lows by asking its child contestants - the youngest of whom is just eight-years-old - to dress in nude bikinis and perform a burlesque routine on stage. The raunchy dance moves are usually the domain of striptease experts, the X-rated acts brimming with nudity, nipple tassels and sexually explicit poses. But a clip from this week's show sees dance teacher Abby Lee Miller dressing the children in tan bikinis to give the audience the impression of full nudity, before asking them to act as if a man 'cant' afford' them. Girls as young as eight have been asked to dress in tan bikinis and dance a burlesque routine to give the 'illusion' that they are naked.
